Standard Drivers License / ID Card


Does not meet national travel security requirements. A Standard Card will need to be used in conjunction with a passport or other acceptable documents approved by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) in order to fly commercially or to access a federal facility or military base. Please see www.tsa.gov/travel/security-screening/identification for more information.

  • A Standard Card does not require additional identity documents, unless the DL-ID is being issued for the first time.

Compliant Drivers License / ID Card


Meets national travel security requirements. A federally-compliant form of identification will be required to fly commercially or to access federal facilities or military bases.

  • A Compliant Card requires more identity documents than a Standard Card. You must provide documents to prove the following:
  • Full Legal Name (Current ID / SS Card)
  • Date of Birth (Your Birth Certificate)
  • Social Security Card
  • Proof of Ohio Residence (See Approved Docs)
  • Proof of Citizenship or Legal Presence

Current Ohio Drivers License Renewals: 

To renew your current Ohio drivers license it must be less than 6 months expired. If it is greater than 6 months passed the expiration date you will be issued a temporary permit and need to successfully complete the all required drivers tests again.

  • Ohio Drivers License Renewals offer the option of four years or eight years depending on your choice and qualifications.
  • Ohio Drivers turning 21 cannot renew more than 30 days before their birthday.

If applicant requests a name change, he or she must provide proof of the change.

If you are Under Age of 21

An Ohio drivers license issued to a driver under 21 years of age expires on the driver’s 21st birthday. Drivers turning 21 cannot renew more than 30 days before their birthday.

If you are Age 65 or Older:

An Ohio drivers license issued to a driver age 65 or over expires in four years. Ohio Drivers age 65 or over must renew their driver license every 4 years and are not eligible to apply for an eight year license.
